Episode #99
I’m not a novice computer user, but I am a novice in this regard. I want to start up a vBulletin web forum. In the short term (first 6 months) I expect to have about 200 members, maybe as many as 50 online at one time. Over the first 6 months, I anticipate about 40,000 posts. I am having some difficulty finding reliable information on what type of hosting I need, as well as who some of the best hosts are. I’m in Canada, is there any advantage to having a Canadian host? Will a shared server be enough. I have a million questions, not the least of which is, how difficult or easy is vBulletin to pick up on, will administrating this be a simple thing? Thanks for your time and effort. Cheers.

That’s not a particularly demanding amount of traffic and nearly any shared hosting setup can handle it. Look for a web host that has VBulletin built-in (using something like the Fantastico installer), that way you know it will work on their setup. It’s might speed things up a bit to have a host who is geographically near the majority of your users, but it really doesn’t matter.
