Episode #98
I received a new iMac Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz (20″) for fathers day. I installed Windows XP on a 32Gig FAT32 partition created using the latest version of Apple’s Bootcamp (version 1.3). Everything went smoothly until we started playing games under Windows XP. Games randomly crashed. I tried troubleshooting the issue with no success and even deleted the partition (using BootCamp) and reinstalling from Scratch (using Bootcamp). The games still randomly crash (can be playing sometime for 20–30 minutes before a crash). I tried downloading a fan control utility (speedfan - http://www.infos-du-net.com/telecharger/SpeedFan,0301-369.html) to run under Windows XP in case it was an overheating issue, but no luck. I then tried to change the video drivers to a custom one (Omega Drivers - http://www.omegadrivers.net/) and seemed to have gained some stability. We were able to play for more than 2 hours before a crash. Do you have any suggestions? I do not think I have a defective machine since the iMac is rock solid under OS X. These crashes are really frustrating and only appear when running under Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve found Windows to run very well under bootcamp. Sean is even playing the very challenging (for the hardware that is) Bioshock under Vista on his MacPro. You did install the driver disc bootcamp made for you right? It does sounds like an overheating issue, but I don’t think it’s common on these systems.
