Most Internet users will now be familiar with “CAPTCHAs”, those whacky distorted images containing letters and numbers which we are asked to enter when posting to blobs, creating eMail accounts, or doing other things on the Internet that “bots” have abused in the past. Leo and I will talk about CAPTCHAs and their pros and cons, We’ll show many samples and discuss the difficulty of figuring out who’s a computer and who’s a human being … and the consequences of their inadvertent discrimination against Internet users with visual disabilities.
