Episode #95

Creating System Recovery Discs

A few years ago I bought a refurbished computer for my son from a small computer store near my home. The only reason I bought it was that it came with the restore disks for the OS.I knew from experience that because of the sites my son went on, I would need it. It has served me well over the years , as I have been able to restore my son’s computer several times. That computer store no longer exsists. I just bought myself a new computer and I want to know if there is a way that I can make restore disks for my OS.I know you mentioned mondorestore on your show, so I went on that site, but I don’t understand a darn thing. Is there any way you can make it REALLY plain? Or is there a software program I can purchase. I know that it can save me thousands of dollars in the long run. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Never ever ever buy a computer that doesn’t come with Recovery discs or a way to make them.

Since you don’t have recovery discs you should now make an image of your disc - it won’t restore it to its pristine state but at least you’ll be able to get back to where you are today. You can use DriveSnapshot to do this (it’s free for 30-days) onto an external hard drive or multiple CDs or DVDs. I recommend following the instructions on the site (http://drivesnapshot.de/en/Tips.htm) for making a bootable CD so you can recover your system directly from your CDs.
