Episode #93
Last winter we went to Yuma for two months. My IP server is Telus. I could receive from anyone, with my little arial on the roof of the truck. Best Buy told me to go to the Shilo Inn that they had wireless access. I could receive from anyone, but I could not send to anyone who did not have a Telus address. This year we are looking at getting something different, something where I can surf and send e-mails from the RV. We were told about a Satelite “Direcway Communications 3i by Hughes”, where we would be able to have internet at our RV and also incorporate Starchoice television with it. Are you aware of this? I thought of Explorer net, but they tell me that is only for Canada, and I need a server for US as well. What do you suggest to be able to surf the web and e-mails. I was using MS-Outlook 2003, so that I could compose at home first, and send when connected to Shilo wireless service. Please help, as I have no idea of what to do, as we are planning on going for six months this winter…beginning in the middle of October, so I would like to find a solution and I have no idea who to turn to. I have no one else to ask.

Many RVers use Direcway and are pretty happy with it. It’s relatively expensive, but it works everywhere in North America as long as you have a clear view of the southern sky. You might also look at the broadband access offered by cell providers like Sprint and Verizon. They only work in the states, though.
