Episode #92

Windows On Older Macs

So, after skimming through Google, I have not found any proprietary virtualization software that is compatible with the PPC platform. My end-goal is to attempt to have Windows on my laptop (Powerbook G4), but I doubt it will work. Is there any way I can at least run Linux on my laptop?

Microsoft released a product called Virtual PC that allowed users to run Windows on older PowerPC based Mac computers, but it was excruciatingly slow even on fast PowerPC machines…it would be almost completely useless on a Powerbook G4. If you really want a Mac that will also run Windows, you really need to invest a bit of money on one of the new Intel-based Macs.

There are definitely distributions of Linux that will run on the PowerPC architecture. You can find out more about running Linux on the Powerbook here: http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/apple.html
