Episode #88
I currently do not have anything posted online and have limited computer abilities. This means I mostly surf the web and use email, however, I do have a computer literate husband who might agree to help out as I get more into the process of setting up a website. What I would like to do is set up a site to sell fiber arts, focusing mostly on homespun yarn, carded wool, knitted items, etc. My friends have set up accounts on ebay and etsy but I don’t want to be on sites like these competing with other sellers trying to sell like items. I have also talked to other people who have set up sites with free sites that do all the work, and heard of complaints about how content is moved around, and advertisements for others outweigh their own content. Do you have any suggestions on books I should read, or resources I should look to, to help me get started, or would it be worth the cost for setup to go to a content management service? Any sort of direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There’s a lot to be said for Etsy - craft buyers go there. If you go it alone you’ll have to find a way for people to find your site. That’s not easy. Plus setting up your own ecommerce system takes some additional effort. There are service providers who can help you with this kind of thing, but they’ll cost some money.
