Episode #84

Creating A DVD Slideshow

I want to make a photo (JPEG images) DVD that I can play on the TV through the DVD player. I have a DVD R/W drive on my 4 year old Dell running Windows XP. IT recognizes DVD+r but not DVD-r. I burn the DVD and finalize it to “make it compatible”, but my DVD player won’t recognize it. Do I need special software to do this, or is it the DVD player - A Mitsubishi DD-8020, about 3 years old. I’m very frustrated with what I thought would be a simple issue.

While there are some DVD players out there that know how to play MP3 files or photos that are burned to a DVD as raw data, in most cases, you will have to use special DVD authoring software to create a DVD slideshow that your DVD player will recognize. There are a number of disc-burning programs available, like Roxio’s EasyMedia Creator, Nero Ultra Edition, MyDVD (now owned by Roxio instead of Sonic) and ArcSoft’s DVD Slideshow. These programs can place the slideshow onto the DVD in a form that your player will understand.
