Missing Desktop Wallpaper.

Well you know you can change the desktop with any pic you choose as a background I did that and put my daughters pic in looks great after a week or so the pic is not there and just a blue screen I go to display properties desktop tab and the background list is grayed out not acsesable you can only change the solid color and not use a pic when you turn off the computer you will see my daughters pic for a sec when all is cleared from the screen and the same when you restart but after it loads everything it go’s to the solid color and the pic goes underneath with no way to change it. Any thoughts?

There are a number of things that can cause this. Make sure you have Active Desktop turned off. You might also want to make some changes to the registry as follows:

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Look in the right pane for a value called Wallpaper. If it exists, right click it and select Delete.

You can also download the registry hack at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm labelled “Allow Wallpaper/Background Changes”

It can also be caused by spyware. Download and install Microsoft Defender (http://microsoft.com/spyware) and scan your system.
