Which Version Of Linux?

Hi Everyone, I have had this urge to try Linux. Whilst I have a good knowledge of windows I have never ever touched linux I just wish to try and perhaps run a system side by side with my windows one using a KVM switch to switch between them. I also want to use it as I feel that in the future we will be using more and more linux My question is Which Linux Distro is best? As it stands my top two seem to be Fedora and Ubuntu but I’m not sure which ones I should download and try!! Thanks a heap. Regards!

“Which version of Linux is best?” is the kind of question that can drive people apart in much the same way that “Windows or Mac?” can. While Ubuntu is the distribution of choice for a growing number of users, there are definitely still a lot of options out there, and because it really comes down to personal choice, the best way to figure this out is simply to try them out. Luckily you can try before you commit: download a number of distros that you’re curious about and set them up as “live DVDs” — that way you can boot right from the DVD without erasing the contents of your system. You’ll be able to try out several distributions before you finally decide which one is for you, and your total cost will be the price of several blank DVDs and the time you spend playing with each.
