If I leave the drive connected the next time it turn on my PC I get the message `NTLDR is missing press ctrl alt del to restart` . Of course when I do this the same thing happens. I have a Lap top which is older than my pic and this does not happen it is not a big problem as i just disconnect it resart the computer then connect it……… but why? thanks.

Sounds like Windows is trying to boot from that external hard drive. You may want to enter your computer’s BIOS next time you boot up (usually it’s by hitting F2 or DEL) and checking the boot sequence listed there. If the first thing listed is external media, USB or Firewire, you will want to shuffle it down the list. My general recommendations these days for boot sequence is CD/DVD, then floppy (if you have it) followed by hard drive. That allows you to boot from recovery CDs or installation CDS if it ever becomes necessary. If there’s nothing bootable in the CD or floppy drives, it should automatically kick you to your main hard drive.
