Can i change the cpu in my compaq laptop presario v2000
Glenn, Sydney, NSW
Short answer: maybe. There have been people who have indeed replaced their processor in the V2000, but how much you can upgrade your processor will depend on which processor’s already in there, and how willing you are to roll up your sleeves. There’s only a limited upgrade path for these particular notebooks — in other words, don’t be expecting to upgrade to a Core Duo, let alone one of the newer processors…and it probably won’t even handle many of the Pentium M processors that are out there. You may end up spending a fair amount of money on the upgrade with little appreciable benefit…and if you’re not familiar with poking around inside notebook cases (which are very very compact for the most part) you also risk doing irreparable damage to the inside of your notebook. If you haven’t already maxed out the RAM on that notebook, you might want to do that first, as it’ll likely give you an immediate performance boost with very little risk.
