    Fink is a community supported project. It’s main goal is to port open source *nix based applications and port them over to OS X. One of the main features of fink is it’s ease of use. It uses a Debian style package management system (apt-get, dpkg, etc..) letting you keep your hands clean of manually compiling software.

    Installing is easy, download the fink installer package from http://www.finkproject.org/download/index.php (both intel and powerpc versions are available) and follow the install instructions. Once you’ve fink installed and running installing additional packages is as easy as running apt-get install

  • In Digital Photography, What is the RAW file format?

    What is RAW?

    1. RAW is the RAW data direct from the chip in the camera. I will draw a diagram on the white board showing the CCD or CMOS chip and show that the RAW output goes directly into the file. The image processor in the camera makes the preview image on the back of the camera and the histogram. I will bring my Canon 5D. Close-ups of the back of the camera will be required.
    2. Only exposure and ISO setting have any effect on the RAW image.
    3. All other camera settings have no effect on the RAW image.
    4. You make all other adjustments in a program like Adobe Camera RAW after you do the shot.
    5. Ansel Adams would have loved ACR. It allows you to have control over all the image factors just like using his Zone System. However, it is much more powerful.
    6. In the next show I will show you how to use Adobe Camera RAW to make the adjustments of your RAW images.
