    Firebug is an extremely powerful tool that lets a web developer or designer inspect any element (tag), CSS properties, Document Object Model (DOM) node, DOM event and JavaScript code.

    Firebug is an extension/add-on for the Firefox web browser. You can download and install this free extension from getfirebug.com.

    When using Firefox to test your web pages, the Firebug extension offers the following features that make it easy to edit and debug your web pages:

    • CSS Layout Inspection
    o Firebug shows you box model shading that visually shows you how much padding and margin you have around your HTML block level elements
    o You can measure the pixel values in the padding and margin of you box model and interactively edit those values to modify your page in real-time and right in the browser
    o Rulers and Guides make it easy to see how your elements are lined up on your page by showing rulers at the top and along the left of your browser window.
    • Live HTML and CSS Editing
    o You can easily inspect any part of you HTML document and interactively edit the HTML and see the changes immediately in your browser
    o You can inspect any element in your web page, to see exactly what styles have been applied to that element including styles that have cascaded down to that element

    If you haven’t tried Firebug yet, I would definitely recommend adding this tool to your web design toolbox. I guarantee it will save you many hours of your valuable time!
