Episode #59
Windows firewall is blocking my clock for synchronizing the time so I installed zone alarm and I still cannot sync unless I turn off the fire wall. I am using windows xp pro media center on one laptop and windows xp home on the other laptop. My wife is using windows xp pro on her computer connected on a lan connection and has no problems. I have installed Internet time utility and set it to up date daily. No luck there either. Any idea what file is used to add to the firewall as an exception so it is all owed out. Or do I have some other problem. Wife loves the NASCAR number 20 shirt. She shows it to everyone that comes by. We sent you a picture of her with the shirt but I guess you never received it. I know you get tons of email and can’t answer them all. Maybe you need to out source your email :-)

If you’re synchronizing your computer’s time using an Internet time server, you need to make sure that that server is included on your firewall’s allowed list, and that the ports necessary for synchronization aren’t blocked. If you’re only using Windows Firewall this should be done automatically, but here are a few tips if it’s still not working, as seems to be the case here:
- In Control Panel, go to Date and Time, choose Internet Time, and then change your time server from time.windows.com to time.nist.gov, then click the Update button to see if you can connect
- You can get tips about blasting through a firewall at NIST’s firewall troubleshooting page, here: http://tf.nist.gov/service/firewall.htm
