Episode #56
Dear Leo My question is two part, I’m a newbie to Windows Vista and I can’t seem to find the file association that at one time was the third tab in Folder Options of XP. Where did it go? My second question is in my Windows Mail I cannot open a PDF file, I get an error message that says this program does not have a program associated to it? and I should go to set associations in control panal. I’ve looked and even try’d the help but I just can’t locate it. If I copy the PDF to my desktop it opens just fine please help!

Great question. Microsoft has acknowledged that the file association system in XP doesn’t work very well, and is trying to make things better by creating a new “Default Programs” control panel. You’ll manage all your file associations there. To change the way your system handles PDF files, click “Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program” then scroll down to .pdf and click Change Program… If you select the program you’d like to use to open PDF files Windows should remember the change and handle it properly going forward.
