Episode #50
My mother is a child minder and some of the older children like to browse the internet, although we sit with them whilst they browse, browsing the internet can be a risky business. Is their an easy way to block all internet sites apart from a pre-defined list of safe websites such as barbie.com or disney.com
Will, Penrith, Cumbria, UK
Windows users can can use the Internet Options to forbid all sites in a user account except those you’d like to allow, but if they’re really young I suggest a child friendly browser like Buddy Browser, http://www.buddybrowser.com.
On Macintosh, open the Safari preference and Enable Parental Controls under the Security tab. Then add the sites you want your kids to be able to visit to the bookmarks bar. They will only be able to access those sites. You’ll find instructions, and a list of kid-safe browsers here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/internetsafetychild.html
