Matt Vogt (www.DXLAB.com) and Patricia Beck (www.3dLeo.com) are demonstrating the 3D printing production pipeline. Matt reveals the bust of Leo and explains the 3D creation process. The process begins with Matt gathering images of Leo. Using these images as a reference, Matt shaped Leo’s head using Autodesk’s 3D Studio Max. From 3D Studio Max, the virtual model was imported into the 3D print software provided by Zcorp. At this point, Pat Beck and her students at W.J. Mouat hit the print button, extracted the final bust and applied finishing touches to the resulting 3D Leo.
Pat also comments on how 3D modeling is incorporated into today’s classrooms, bringing alive students designs and encouraging them to engage in creative expression.
