Show Notes: Episode 21

  • Using Flash for TV

We’re gonna tear down the walls of what people think about flash and digital 2d. There is no magic “animate” button, it’s simply a digital pencil and paper, traditional animation techniques and laws of motion all still apply. It still takes a lot of hard work from talented animators to bring the characters to life. The only thing that’s changed is the medium and the controls. For the most part, flash has brought television animation home. Where as before with classical, the high cost of production and low budgets forced animation to be done overseas, which brought down the quality. But flash lets us keep it in house (for the most part) and gives us greater controls on quality. Plus it reduces the use of paper.

Because of higher bandwidths today, the only real difference between flash animation for web VS. flash for broadcast, is the delivery system and the production value.

Ubercaster is a tool dedicated to Podcasting. On top of looking really cool, it allows you to record multitrack, add opens and closes, add enhanced podcasts, and even upload to the web!

It’s a pretty cool application for $79. It’s not Soundtrack or Audition but it does make much of the process pretty seamless. The Upload options are a little wonky but for a version 1…it’s very promising.
