Hi Leo, LOves ya! in all your forms from Pcasts to Telly! I am a recent converter to the glorious Mac’tastic lifestyle, yet I have a few problems. I love to take movies with my sony cybershot. I used to create master peaces with windows movie maker and i hoped to do the same with imovie but am having quite a few issues converting my MPG’s to Quicktime or whatever. What is the best, easiest and free’est converter out there given i am a busted student?

I use the excellent Visual Hub to do this, but since you have no money you might want to try its free brother, iSquint. It’s designed for converting video to iPod format, but iMovie should be able to import that. Make sure to use “TV quality” to preserve the quality of your original movie.
