Episode #179

Streaming Media player problem

Hi! I use my laptop regularly to listen to one of our local radio stations live feed. I can no longer get the live feed to work on my laptop. However, it does work on my desktop computer which tells me it’s not the radio station web site, but peculiar to my laptop. How do I get this fixed to run again on my laptop. If you want to look at the radio station site it is vocm.com and the button to listen to the live feed is at the top left corner of the home page. When I click on the listen button on my laptop, I get a brief recording saying that they are experiencing technical difficulties and to try again in 30 minutes. It has been like this for weeks. But it is fine on other computers. I am puzzled. Thank you.

It looks like VOCM requires Windows Media Player and works best with Internet Explorer. There’s a Firefox button but it doesn’t work for me. This is a constant problem with streaming audio and video. Aside from Flash audio and video (which is being more widely used all the time) standards vary widely. You just need to find the right combination of programs to play the audio. I’d compare Windows Media Player versions. The VOCM stream is probably sensitive to the version you’re using - you may have to upgrade (or downgrade) to get it working.
