Widescreen Video on PCs

Hi! I was curious, why is it that widescreen computer monitors are 16×10, but HDTV’s are 16×9? Love the show! -Kevin

That’s an interesting question. I supposed it’s because computer screens aren’t designed solely for displaying HD video, but in truth, neither is exactly the right aspect ratio for movies which are not 16:9 but in fact closer to 2.4:1. That’s why you see black bars even on 16:9 TV screens when you watch movies. HD television is shot at 16:9 so it fits the TV and it’s close enough for the computer.
