How can I move preinstalled software from one hard drive to another? On my old computer I just moved them, but in doing so, I messed up my hard drive. can these files be moved without hurting the main hard drive?

This is tough to do on Windows since a program install puts files in many locations, not just the Program Files folder. In some cases moving the program folder is enough, more often you need to find DLLs and registry settings and move them too. This is tough to do by hand.
I recommend a program called Move Me from SpearIt software (http://www.spearit.com/about_MoveMe.html) or a hardware device called The Tornado (http://thetornado.com)

The Harmony remote control was born in Canada but a few years ago it was acquired by Logitech, which has continued to develop the technology. The concept is the same: users help build the database of all of the codes for remote-controlled gadgets out there, and the Harmony makes it easy to control any that you might have in your house, either one at a time or in “activity” mode. The interface for adding gadgets is quite easy to set up, but programming activities can still be a bit challenging—especially if you use your gadgets in non-traditional ways. The nice thing about the Harmony One is that the company has redesigned the charging cradle so that the remote sits nicely in it (the old one didn’t always charge).
