Episode #167
I want to know if all the stuff that console is recording can be deleted somehow, as I have over 26Gb of space being used by it.

Wow. The Console is a fantastically useful tool that lets you read log files (like console.log and system.log). These are text files where programs and OS X store error and status messages. The logs do fill up over time, however. The Mac has built-in log clean up routines, but sometimes they don’t get run. You can clean it up with any of various utilities.
However, before you delete it you might want to look at it to see what’s filling it up so fast. It’s likely that some program or other is spamming your logs.
Sean’s note: My favourite application for getting access to this type of data is a little free utility called OnyX, which you can find at http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html
There’s a section called “Cleaning” that allows you to clean up your various data caches, including system logs, Internet caches, etc. You can also use it to tweak many of your system settings too.
