Episode #16

Routers with Dialup Modems

Please ! My job is providing solutions for clients. At present I use a DSL Router SMC7004ABR with a serial port. When the DSL line goes down the router activates the serial port to provide a 56k dial up connection to the internet. Seems to work great - problem no one is making routers with fall back to dial up any more. Would you know of any manufacturer that either has a serial port or a DSL modem with built in fall back. Please and thank you. BTW: I have asked this question many times before and have yet to receive any type of response. Please and thank you.

These products still exist but are getting harder to find as dial-up connections are getting less common (and too slow for most users). I hae used the Wilyer - a Wi-Fi router with a dialup modem built-in. It might be too small for a larger business but it’s fine for a few users. http://www.wiflyer.com. Otherwise it’s possible to build your own with Linux or http://Freesco.com.
