At my school, (I am a teacher), some of the applications we use for gradebook and attendance are web-based. I can access and use them with IE7 but when I try to use Firefox, they don’t work. I prefer the safety that Firefox offers but I can’t use it at school. Can you help me?

IE7 is so much improved that it equals Firefox for security - especially in Vista. However, you can easily use both with a Firefox extension called IE View. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/35 - installing it gives you an IE window when needed inside Firefox.
