Episode #158

Outlook Address Autocomplete

when I type in an email to someone, if I have written to them before the outlook program will automatically give me a scroll of many names that I have written to before. But where are these names stored? If I want to write to a whole lot of ppl, I have to type “a” and then it will show me all the names beginning with “a”, and this is very time consuming. I have gone into the CONTACTS and they are not stored there… so where are these names stored?!

Angelique, Sydney, NSW

You’d think Outlook would get these from the address book. It does. Sometimes. Mostly it’s pulling from the Nickname cache. It adds the names and addresses you’ve used before here. It’s stored in a .NK2 file and can’t be edited. Well you can delete nicknames by selecting it in the Outlook To: field and pressing Delete. Pressing Ctrl-K will lookup all matching names in your address book and nickname cache.

Here’s how to delete the nickname cache entirely: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=287623
