Episode #154

I Broke My Server

I have recently purchase a new HP Proliant Server with a Xeon 3.8 GHZ Processor. I pulled the processor out to take a look at it. I went to put it back in but mis-alighned it and bent 2 of the pins on the on it. I Tried to straighten them back out but ended up snapping them off. I want to know if there is any way of repairing this, I’ve read of ways but was hesitant to try some. I really don’t want to have to replace this CPU. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. I don’t think it’s fixable, but it is possible the pin is not needed. Here’s a blog post from another fellow in the same boat who was still able to use the CPU after breaking one pin. http://blog.davidkaspar.com/archives/2006/09/fixing-a-processor-with-a-b.... Of course two pins makes it less likely, but what have you got to lose?
