Episode #152
I am going to replace my existing McAfee security system and one of your shows mentioned some good virus checkers etc., some of which were very good yet inexpensive. I found out McAfee was storing my creditcard number and was planning to renew my subscription without my prior OK. (seems I agreed to this in the fine print..)Ater arguing with them about removing my card # I decided there are other choices, hopefully with options that allow you to do PC virus scans when you choose, and allow you review what viruses etc. they have blocked/removed, which McAfee seems to scan but not allow you to review what they did..

There are three good, free, anti-virus programs I recommend:
AVG
Avast
Anti-vir
But the best anti-virus I know is NOD32 from . It’s very lightweight and highly effective. I am hearing good things about the new Norton 2008, however, and it’s probably another to consider.
Sean’s note: The anti-virus program we keep coming back to over and over again is ESET’s Nod32 — it keeps coming out on top in rankings of antivirus programs thanks to its ability to detect viruses combined with its light touch in terms of system resources. Combine that with a good anti-spyware package or two and you’ll be in a good position.
