Episode #15
I want to fix the dual boot I have on my computer. I had Vista RC1 installed on my second drive. I tried uninstalling it and that did not work. I then tried formatting the disk and that did not work either. It is a Pain to have to wait for the boot screen to load XP, when I want that to be the default OS anyway. Thank you.

This is definitely fixable, but you’ll have to wait one more time for XP to go through the boot process. Once XP is up and running, click on the Start Menu and then right-click on My Computer and choose the Properties option. When the System Properties dialogue box comes up, click on the Advanced tab and then click on the Settings button under the Startup and Recovery sub-menu. At the top of the dialogue box that appears you’ll see a pull-down menus under “Default operating system”…choose the one you want, and then adjust the length of time the list of operating systems is displayed to a more manageable time (default is 30 seconds, which sometimes seems like an eternity). If you prefer to edit the boot options manually, you can click on the button that says “edit” underneath — you can remove the option that doesn’t apply anymore (Vista) and change the default option to the one you do want (XP), but you’ll have to copy the proper hard drive address, which can be intimidating. Best to just use the dialogue box if you’re really not sure what you’re doing…you can theoretically make the system unbootable if you edit the boot.ini file manually and enter the wrong data.
