I have 5 year old XP (SP1) install disc that came with my dell. Can I collect all of the updates onto one bootable CDR for future re-installs. Can I use that slipstreamed Windows XP CDR to install Windows on my new imac?

You sure can. Use nlite (http://nliteos.com) to create a new install disc with all the updates.
