Craftsman Heated Work Vest
www.Craftsman.com
$120
If you’re out on the worksite in the cold, you could bundle right up, but that might reduce your mobility. The Heated Work Vest actually gives you a bit of heat boost thanks to a heated panel on the back of the vest…simply attach the battery pack and set it to low, medium or high heat. Unfortunately, it means your back will be warmer than your front, but there’s a bit of extra padding on the front because of the included tool pockets. For those who want sleeves, the full-on jacket version is available for $160.
8-bit Tie
Thinkgeek.com
$20
If you’re forced to wear a tie at work, you can conform to the corporate dress code while showing everyone you’d rather be gaming by wearing this 8-bit tie. Instead of a nice traditional cut, the 8-bit tie replaces the nice diagonal lines with pixilated jaggies ala old-school video games. And don’t worry if you don’t know how to tie a tie: it’s a clip-on.
Wi-Fi Detector Shirt
http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/generic/991e/
$30
If you’re not sure if the area you’re currently in has any WiFi networks in it, you have two choices — you can haul out your notebook and boot it up to see…or you can just look down at your chest to see if it’s lighting up. The Wi-Fi Detector Shirt from ThinkGeek.com has a front panel with WiFi signal strength bars…the more it’s lit up, the stronger the WiFi signal is. The battery pack tucks away inside a secret hidden compartment. The front panel comes off the shirt so you can wash it without worrying about the electronics.
Tactical 4.0 Jacket
www.SCOTTeVEST.com
$230
If you’re looking for THE name in tech-friendly clothing, it’s SCOTTeVEST — Scott Jordan has been creating clothing with lots of gadget-friendly pockets for a number of years now, and he’s rightly earned a huge following among the techies. The Tactical 4.0 Jacket has more than 35 pockets hidden away in various locations — sometimes inside other pockets. This one features a zip-off hood and zip-off arms, as well as side-seam zippers. There’s a ton of carrying capacity inside, and the big problem here is the same as on some of Scott’s other jackets…there are so many pockets you might lose things inside the jacket!
SeV TEC Shirt
www.SCOTTeVEST.com
$70
If you’re not really much of a jacket person, the TEC shirt can tuck away some of your valuables too thanks to 8 hidden pockets. The TEC shirt works best if you wear it over top of a t-shirt, because accessing the inner pockets will mean partially undressing if you’re not wearing a shirt underneath. It’s available in charcoal and khaki.
Hidden Cargo Pants
www.SCOTTeVEST.com
$60
Yes, you can get gadget pants too — on this set of cargo pants the majority of the eleven pockets are hidden and protected from bulging, so you won’t be advertising you’re carrying around a bunch of tech. These come in stone, black and army green.
Travel Vest - Women’s
www.SCOTTeVEST.com
$100
Why should men have all the tech clothing? Scott has also released this women’s version of the Travel Vest, complete with different sizing, a different cut and all the pockets you’ve come to expect from a SCOTTeVEST product.
Split Thump
Oakley
$279 and up
If you love wearing shades and you love music, why not combine the two? Okay, it sounds like it might be ridiculous, and earlier attempts to do this have looked a bit cumbersome and less suave than anticipated…but Oakley’s newest audio-enabled shades not only look pretty cool, they sound pretty good too. The player controls are built into the temples, and the adjustable earpieces can be removed entirely when you’re not listening to your tuns. The downside: there’s not a lot of onboard memory, so you’ll be limited to a few albums at a time…and you have to be careful with the earbuds so you don’t lose them between uses.
Option-Shift-K t-shirt
store.macmerc.com
$18
Straight out of the stables of our good pal Rick “MacMerc” Yaeger’s online t-shirt store comes this nerdy code for Mac-heads in the know? Don’t know what this key sequence does? Why not open up a word processing document and try it out?
