I would like to know how to embed music files without bloating my Powerpoint and also without having to have a folder containing the music and the ppt file.

The key is to link to the file, not embed it. To prevent Powerpoint from embedding the music either use MP3 files or open Options… click the General tab, then set a very low number under the "Link sounds with file size greater than" item.
