    Soaring is the art of flying a high performance glider and seeking out air currents that are rising faster than the sink rate of your ship. You then fly at the optimum speed between the rising air currents (thermals) to cover as much ground as possible in the shortest time. This technique allows you to fly long distances across the countryside without an engine. Since the rising air currents are caused by heat from the sun, your flight is solar powered. Soaring clubs in Canada compete for maximum distance flown by posting the distance flown each weekend to a web site. A GPS data logger records the distance of each flight. A file from the data logger is uploaded to this web site. In addition you can review your flight on Goggle Earth.
