I am starting to do various projects for different people and would like to accurately keep the time spent on individual projects as easy as possible. I know there are programs out there but not sure which ones are the best and which ones are safe to download. Thank you for your help in advance.

There are LOTS of programs to do this. Some very expensive, some cheap, depending on how many features you want. I would try the $9 Time Box, http://taubler.com/timebox/, first. It’s simple and inexpensive. Another good inexpensive choice is TimePanic, http://www.timepanic.com/english/index.html.
