I restarted my computer the other day, and now it says I have no cd or dvd drives. where did they go, and how do I get them back?

XP is misbehaving. This is quite common, unfortunately. If you can see the drives in your hardware manager try removing them and restarting again. It might also be a hardware problem, which requires a trip to the shop.
First see if you can boot with the CD or DVD drive. If you can run the Windows installer, for example, you know your hardware is ok. If you can’t check your drives, cabling, or IDE interface.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 - deleting some registry keys can fix this problem.
