Episode #134

Mac Web Design

Currently using “webstudio”on a PC but am trying to switch to Mac. I don’t know any HTML. HELP me PLEASE.

John, Whitby, ON

Macs are used by many web designers and offer a huge variety of tools for easy web design. The easiest is iWeb but it locks you into iWeb - iweb designed sites can’t be maintained by any other program. If you want to learn more about web design the free NVU can’t be beat. Then there are many other great tools like Panic Software’s Coda, MacRabbit’s CSSEdit, and the big boy, Macromedia’s Dreamweaver.

Sean’s note: If you’re buying a Mac, it should come with iWeb by default - it will help you design basic web pages using included templates, which you can then modify yourself. It should be noted that the program doesn’t generate the cleanest HTML code so it won’t necessary be the best choice for pro jobs, but if it’s just for your own pages it should do the trick. If you want to step up to a more professional level, you can also get Adobe’s Dreamweaver for the Mac.
