Are facebook applications safe? I am afraid to add any to my facebook because the warnings REALLY worry me. Will I open a spam network? Thanks

Facebook requires that application developers use FBML - a secure markup language. Even though these apps do interact with external servers your personal information is protected. You should make sure you properly protect your profile. Sophos, the well-known security firm, recommends these settings on your FB account. http://www.sophos.com/security/best-practice/facebook.html

-Think carefully about who you allow to become your friend
-Show “limited friends” a cut-down version of your profile
