For a while now we have heard about the portable applications that are available for the Windows users, but what about us Mac users? Enter a great collection of Mac (and some cross platform) apps that we just can’t live with out.

http://www.freesmug.org/portableapps/ - These guys have some great OS X apps like Word processors, ftp clients, IRC clients, and more.

http://www.theplaceforitall.com/ - This has two of the greatest portable apps, Versions of the popular web browser Firefox and the email client Thunderbird, best of all these are compiled for both the Mac and Windows so it doesn’t matter what OS your on you can run them both and you will maintain all your settings across both platforms.

How to find royalty free music for your films/podcasts.

What is Royalty-Free Music? Basically I can explain how copyright works with regular music and why you can’t just use any song. I’ll explain the concept of royalty free music and why it’s an important distinction.
Where can you find it – three of paces to get royality free music:
1.professional royalty-free music companies – these are companies that collect and offer royalty free music, usually as single tracks or as full cd’s. Music can range from fairly cheap to pretty expensive, though still much cheaper than a Hollywod movie would pay.
2.creative commons licensed works – these are websites that offer music tracks that can usually be used royalty free for commercial or non-commercial purposes, depending on the license. Most authors just ask for attritbution.
3.indie tracks that you seek permission – these can be friends and other indie artist communities that offer music for download; you ask them yourself if you can use it royalty free and work out attribution or compensation.
Not sure what to make my last point – I was thinking how to use it in your film/podcast? But then again, that may be off topic. Thoughts?
