I need to back up many different files to DVD. I’ve tried Retrospec Express. It didn’t manage to be able to use my bult-in DVD on my iMac (Intel based). So, basically I want to back up my files from my external drives, internal drive to DVD. I need as much compression as possible. Can you give me free and $$$ options?

Backing up a huge external drive to DVD is not a very fantastic option — if you have a 1 terabyte drive, it’ll cost you about half as much to buy DVDs as it would to just buy a brand new external drive, but the DVD backup will essentially eat up a lot of your time too. Better, the external drive will most likely last longer—DVDs can fail, which means you might end up losing precious data if your DVDs go south.
