Show Notes: Episode 12

  • HDMI vs HDV
    Founder, Pixel Corps

So you are on a “home” budget but want to do big videos for AppleTV? You can use HDV but the compression can be problematic. Fortunately, new home cameras are sporting an HDMI connection that, while designed for your TV, outputs a fat signal you can use to capture high-quality video from your handycam.

HDV is about 3.5 MB/sec of data while the HDMI is 90 meg/sec. That’s 25 times the size!!! The image is, of course, much cleaner. It does require a little more hardware. You need a fast hard drive (like a GTek G RAID) but you are really shooting a broadcast quality signal with a little camera!!
