I have been looking to buy an LCD HDTV either 24 or 26 inches but I have noticed that the native resolution for these TV’s is 1366 x 768 which is 720p. I was looking for a TV to output 1080i or 1080p or is this not possible with a smaller TV.

You’re probably not going to find any 1080p sets at that lower size, and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference in resolution at that size anyhow — so don’t worry too much about getting one that displays 1080p — even if you get one that only does 720p, it’ll still play 1080i and 1080p content just find through downscaling.
