Learn how to rig your home camcorder up for high-end filmmaking.
Most of our cameras are, well, inexpensive. We have little lenses with few options and hardly enough to make out next gReat movie. But there is hope! Lens kits are add-ons that augment the power of our little cameras (in my case, a Canon HV20). These kits have a piece of “Spinning” glass that a regular film lens projects to. Our camcorder is only looking at this image (instead of the real world). On the other side is a Nikon, Canon, or even a professional film lens with all the control and depth of field we would expect from a film lens. The results are a luscious image that looks more like the theater and less like a home movie.
They are a little pricey…$1500…but a small price to pay if you are the next Spielberg!

DX-Ball is a free arcade game by Michael P. Welch. It is one of the best Breakout-style games. The object of the game is to bounce your ball around the screen with your paddle, breaking bricks, collecting points and power-ups as you go. Once all the bricks are destroyed, you move to the next level. If you drop the ball, you lose a life. The game has 50 different levels, lots of power-ups and in-game music.

WiFi is one of those things that has made life easier for lots of people, but lousy WiFi signals plague nearly all of those people at one point or another. Hfield’s Wi-Fire is designed to help — once you install the driver on your computer, and change your network adapter to the Wi-Fire, you can start pulling in signals from much further away thanks to the aimable antenna. There’s an arrow on the top that you can point in the direction of the access point, if you know where it is. While the Wi-Fire is designed to hang from the edge of your screen, it tends to spin with gravity…so you’ll probably just want to readjust the clip so that it sits on the next next to you. We found that configuration can be a bit of a pain, but once it’s up and running it can give you a WiFi signal where none previously existed.Shiny
