Episode #102
How would i be able to record from video from TV which is hooked up to a cable tv box to a external hard drive so that, I would be able to access them on my computer so that i could edit them ? (if possible would i be able to have some sort of Media Player which could also access this external hard drive which acts like a media library)
What kind of hardware would i need:-
- What brand/model external hard drive ?
- What kind of cables ?
- What kind of quality would i be able to save them at ? (the cable box is HDef)

In general, you can’t take a hard drive that’s been connected to a digital cable box and then use that video on your computer, thanks to the miracle of Digital Rights Management — the video on that drive is protected so that it will only work with your DVR. If you really want to edit the videos on your computer, your best bet will be to use a video capture box and stream it out from the DVR through one of the analogue outputs…it won’t look as good but it’s probably the only way to get the content to your PC.
