A look at the world of online digital music following Apple’s decision to start selling DRM-free music through iTunes.
Digital Rights Management has been the darling of the music industry and the bane of music lovers: the technology has largely been used to restrict users’ ability to copy music freely from one device to another, which means that music purchased at an online store may not be usable on the device of your choice. Nettwerk’s Terry McBride appeared in the very first batch of Lab With Leo shows six months ago to talk about the future of music and the future of DRM, but since that point Apple has worked with the music industry to start releasing DRM-free music through its iTunes music store. He rejoins us to chat about what this means for the industry, and what’s next.
