  • Learn how to make free Ringtones for the iPhone and others.
    Founder, Pixel Corps

So, even if you don’t have an iPhone, there are a few tips to making a good ringtone…

1)Look for music that is simple – The more complex the song, the harder it will be for the little phone speaker to reproduce it.
2)Cut any silent space out of the beginning of the sample if you are starting at the beginning of the song.
3)Listen to song for the beginning of a “bar” which is the natural place to cut the music.
4)Equalize the sample to remove everything below 500 hz and above 10000 hz…your phone can’t reproduce it.
5)Add Audio Compression to reduce the range of volume in the song…and make it more present on the little speakers.
6)Normalize the overall volume to −3 db. If you normalize to 0…it will often make the speakers crackle.

If you are using an iPhone, Get iToner and simply drag and drop your new sample onto the window and hit sync…your iPhone will be good to go.

  • Advanced Quicksilver Techniques
General Manager of Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc.

I’ll show how to set up and use the Quicksilver "proxy object" to perform actions on the currently-selected item, such as text from a web page or files in the Finder. Then I’ll show how to set up a "menu item proxy" to select menu items from applications that don’t have shortcuts.

  • Make your own iPod shuffle cable.
    Co-Host/Producer: www.DigitalUnderground.tv

One of the great things about the second generation iPod shuffles is it’s tiny sleek design, too bad the synch cable that comes with it is almost as big and bulky as the shuffle itself. By spending $4 you can build your own tiny iPod shuffle cable.

    What you will need:

    USB Type A connector
    4 Pole 3.5mm Connector
    Wire
    Soldering Iron
    Patience

Connect the shortest length possible of wire between the points listed in the above diagram.

These contact points can be small and quite tricky so take your time with doing so.

Once you have soldered up the contacts use a multimeter to make sure that there are no shorts between the contacts. You want to make sure that no solder has spilled between the contacts, this would be bad and could cause a short and kill your ipod.

Use some heat shrink tubing to clean the whole thing up and make it look professional.
