  • iPod battery life … and death: The truth about Lithium Ion batteries
    Security Expert. www.grc.com

Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) cells and batteries have a distinctly shorter life than the expected service life of many devices in which they are used. Lithium Ion batteries begin to suffer noticeable “fade” after 300 to 500 charge/discharge cycles – which is less than one year of daily battery cycling usage. And even when on the shelf, Li-Ion batteries age in a few years. The operation of devices such as the Apple iPod may begin to falter as their batteries age in ways that mask the true nature of the device’s (battery) trouble.
