Steve is the well-known president and founder of Gibson Research Corporation which is the publisher of Steves highly regarded "SpinRite" hard disk data recovery and maintenance utility. He is credited with first using and coining the term "Spyware" and putting the term into common use within the PC industry. He also wrote the PC industrys first spyware detection and removal utility software: OptOut. For eight years Steve wrote his top-rated weekly "TechTalk" column in InfoWorld and with Leo Laporte he now produces the very popular "Security Now!" podcast, now in its second year. Aside from GRCs commercial product, SpinRite, Steve has written and published a great many pieces of security and privacy related freeware including "LeakTest", the industrys first personal firewall leakage tester, SecurAble, a tool to determine how "securable' a PCs processor might be, 'Shoot The Messenger', "UnPlug nPray", DCOMbobulator, Wizmo, XPdite, MouseTrap, ID Serve and many more. Steve has been a keynote speaker at numerous industry tradeshows and public and private events. And he is a frequent guest on Leo Laportes Call For Help and Leos Lab cable television shows.
